English translation of ELLE JAPON (Feb 2013) interview with Benedict Cumberbatch
Q. What film do you recommend to J.J. Abrams?
A. A Prophet (2009) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Prophet
Chills ran down to my spine to see the cold blooded and brutal Mafias ruling inside the prison. If you don’t kill them, they’ll get you killed. Such peculiar circumstances would dehumanise people. The film also has some entertaining aspects, so I hope J.J. will see it.
Q. What film do you recommend to Chris Pine?
A. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001:_A_Space_Odyssey_(film)
To Chris, I recommend one of the Sci-Fi masterpieces. It would give him a sense of magnificence and mystery of the space. I think HAL 9000 is a historic villain. I was so thrilled by the plot that Artificial Intelligence kills those spaceship crew members one after another.
Q. What film do you recommend to Martin Freeman?
A. No Country for Old Men (2007) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Country_for_Old_Men_(film)
Chigurh, the sociopathic hitman, and his horrendous crimes were quite impressive to me. Javier Bardem never plays a villain without leaving a strong impression on the audience. I’m sure this film will inspire Martin who doesn’t have any evil side at all!
I hope my English makes sence and you enjoy reading this post. Thanks. xx
